KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 174,634 tonnes of cargo comprising 142,687 tonnes of import cargo and 31,947 tonnes of export cargo including 8,983 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 142,687 tonnes comprised of 82,504 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,086 tonnes of general cargo; 27,204 tonnes of bulk cargo: 21,658 tonnes of coal; 2,114 tonnes of fertilizer; 1,425 tonnes of iron & steel scrap; 2,007 tonnes of palm kernel expeller and 24,893 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 31,947 tonnes comprised of 19,673 tonnes of containerised cargo; 474 tonnes of general cargo and 11,800 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 8,983 containers comprising of 5,318 containers import and 3,665 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,991 of 20’s and 1,610 of 40’s loaded while 05 of 20’s and 51 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 488 of 20’s and 595 of 40’s loaded containers while 289 of 20’s and 849 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven ships namely Cosco Durban, CMA CGM Tosca, Prosper, Kavo Platanos, Dong A Glaucos, SL Teal and Ru Yi Song carrying containers, coal, vehicles, tug and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were five vessels viz. Northern Dependant, Prosper, MSC Tasmania, Balaban and Abu Al Abyad carrying containers, fertilizer and chemical respectively currently at the berths.

There were two ships namely Kota Kaya and MSC Tasmania carrying containers sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Northern Dependant and Almayros carrying containers and coal respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

There were three vessels MT Shalamar, Mandarin Fortune and Darya Ganga carrying oil tanker, coal and DAP respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while five vessels viz. MOL Endowment, Sima Giselle, Bon Atlantico, Genuine Galaxy and Qing Yun Shan carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and steel respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 90,494 tonnes comprising 77,517 tonnes of import cargo and 12,977 tonnes of export cargo including 3,440 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 77,517 tonnes includes 17,411 tonnes of furnace oil; 1,950 tonnes of palm oil; 1,542 tonnes of LPG; 4,231 tonnes of rape seeds and 52,383 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 12,977 tonnes includes 12,977 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,440 containers comprising of 2,757 containers import and 683 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely CV Northern Movement and MT North Gas carrying containers and LPG sailed out to sea on Wednesday afternoon.

A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Northern Movement, CV Express Black Sea, CV MSC Heidi, CV APL Columbus, MV Sea Treasure, MV Sea Joy, MT North Gas, MT Pavino Spirit and MT Wawasan Jade currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, steel coil, rape seeds, LPG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as fifteen ships namely MV MG Earth, MV Nireas, MV Saskias, MV Tzoumaz, MV Jin Da, MV Friendly Sea, MV Star Mistral, MT Ever Rich-6, MT Mer Babu, MT Stvanger Bliss, MT Lion-M, MT Fotini Lady, MT Lilac Victoria, MT Glorious and MT Al-Dasma carrying soyabean, canola seeds, steel coil, talcum powder, LPG, crude oil, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There was one vessels viz. MT Friendly Sea carrying coal expected to take berth at Iron Ore & Coal Berth on Wednesday.

There were ten ships namely CV APL Japan, CV Nicoline Maersk, CV Teno, CV Yuan Jing, CV Hansa America, CV Express Black Sea, MV Sophia-Z, MT Gaslog Seattle, MG Gas and MT PVT Athena carrying containers, coal, LNG, LPG and furnace oil respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.

There is one ship namely CV Priority carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
