KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 227,423 tonnes of cargo comprising 205,828 tonnes of import cargo and 21,595 tonnes of export cargo including 7,489 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 205,828 tonnes comprised of 50,755 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,941 tonnes of general cargo; 57,301 tonnes of bulk cargo: 42,336 tonnes of coal; 7,254 tonnes of fertilizer; 661 tonnes of rapeseeds; 7,050 tonnes of rock phosphate and 93,831 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,595 tonnes comprised of 17,445 tonnes of containerised cargo and 4,150 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 7,489 containers comprising of 4,191 containers import and 3,298 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,527 of 20’s and 1,326 of 40’s loaded while 08 of 20’s and 02 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 226 of 20’s and 599 of 40’s loaded containers while 394 of 20’s and 740 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Clemen Schulte, ALS Apollo, Spero, Bertina and Balaban carrying containers, chemical and DAP respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. Kota Kamil, YM Cypress, Spero, Asavary, Jork and KSL Danyang carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were six ships namely Kota Kamil, Sima Genesis, Oriental Marguerite, Torm Ismini, MT Quetta and Mandarin Fortune carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Darya Ganga and KSL Danyang carrying DAP and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

There were four vessels Northern Decision, Ever Diamond, Arabian Orchid and Bunga Laurel carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while eight vessels viz. Hansa Offenburg, Kota Lambah, Al Farahidi, MOL Explorer, Sunray, Bon Atlantico, Alpine Minute and Genius Star-III carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 91,512 tonnes comprising 64,905 tonnes of import cargo and 26,607 tonnes of export cargo including 3,070 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 64,905 tonnes includes 8,347 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,549 tonnes of palm oil; 4,374 tonnes of LPG; 3,000 tonnes of canola seeds; 1,772 tonnes of chemical and 37,863 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 26,607 tonnes includes 26,607 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,070 containers comprising of 1,803 containers import and 1,267 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were three ships namely CV Maersk Atlanta, MV YM Miranda and MV Gas Ethereal carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday afternoon.

A total number of ten vessels currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, chemical, steel coil, canola seeds, LPG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as seventeen ships namely CV New Ark, MV MG Earth, MV Nireas, MV Saskias, MV Hanren, MV Gong Yin-1, MV Tiger Hong Kong, MT Ever Rich-6, MT Thomson Gas, MT MT Epic Sardine, MT Mer Babu, MT PVT Athena, MT Lion-M, MT Fotini Lady, MT Maistros, MT Glorious and MT Al-Dasma carrying containers, soyabean, project cargo, coal, LPG, crude oil, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four vessels viz. MV Hanren, MV Tiger Hong Kong, MT Al Jassasiyah and MT Epic Sardina carrying project cargo, coal, chemical and LPG expected to take berths at Multi Purpose Terminal, Iron Ore & Coal Berth, Engro Vopak Terminal and SSGC LPG Terminal respectively on Wednesday.
